The four astronauts who completed NASA’s Artemis II lunar mission are scheduled to receive the Congressional Space Medal of Honor during a ceremony at Johnson Space Center in Houston.
President Donald Trump is due to present the award at 11 a.m. EDT on 28 August 2026. The recipients are NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, together with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen.
The crew completed a 10-day flight around the Moon on 10 April. NASA described the mission as the first crewed test flight of the Orion spacecraft. The astronauts became the first people in more than 50 years to travel beyond the Moon and, according to the agency, travelled farther from Earth than any humans before them.
Recognition after a historic test flight
The medal is one of the United States’ highest honours for achievements in space. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman is expected to join the President and crew members at the ceremony.
NASA plans to stream the event online. The recognition comes as the agency continues developing the Artemis programme and evaluating the results of Artemis II for future lunar missions.
